For the last years, the Cross-Border Agency has been doing a great effort to develop guidebooks in various areas of the Basque Eurocity, in order for the everyday life in our territory to be more approachable and better to live.

Among the guidebooks that have been developed with detailed information, there are the Guide for Higher Education, the Guidebook of the Environmental Equipments, the Sports Guidebook and the Guidebook for the Learning of Languages in the Basque Eurocity.

Under the title "Cross-border regions: is shared linguistic policy possible?", the course, usually held by this Cross-border Agency in collaboration with the summer courses of the University of the Basque Country, took place at the Miramar Palace.

The numerous attendance proved that the subject is interesting for both sides of the old frontier. After knowing the most outstanding aspects of the linguistic policies implemented in each side, we had the chance to know something else about the situation of the minorized languages in border regions, as well as the recommendations of the Council of Europe regarding the learning of the neighbouring languages. The session ended with the presentation of a proposal for a linguistic policy in the Basque Eurocity, valuing the three languages existing in our region

THE IDENTITY AND SOCIOECONOMIC FLOWS OF THE BASQUE EUROCITY

The Humanities Faculty at Deusto University’s San Sebastián Campus, with the collaboration of Gipuzkoa Provincial Council’s Department for Institutional and Social Relations, has been measuring the identity and socioeconomic flows of the Basque Eurocity since 2004.This specifically involved analysing business mobility, mobility in free time and leisure consumption, as well as identity and feeling of belonging.

This document contains the summary of the first year’s measurements, a summary that will be accompanied by various more detailed monographs. We hope to publish, in a year’s time, the results of the second measurement period, and so on successively.
